01/08/2009 - Memphis Chapter 61 – ASIS International
January Meeting Announcement & News

The January Meeting of Memphis Chapter 61 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 20th. Our meeting time and location, 1:00 PM at the Winchester Half Shell Restaurant, remains the same. The agenda for the meeting will include discussions of our 2009 Chapter Goals, ASIS HQ News, our chapter’s continued partnership with the InfraGard Memphis Members Alliance, and the planning of our chapter’s 40th Anniversary celebration.

This change was made for two reasons; to allow those of you who normally attend the monthly meeting to participate in the January 13 – 15 Risk & Threat Assessment Course at the University of Memphis, and to allow me to present to the membership ASIS International news and updates after I attend the January 14 – 16 ASIS International Leadership Conference at ASIS Headquarters.

News Updates: Ralph Sims, Region 7A RVP has agreed to remain in the RVP Volunteer Leadership position for 2009. As you all know, Ralph is a great supporter of our chapter and has been instrumental in many of our successes. I would like to extend my personal thanks to Ralph for his continued support and dedication. Anyone who wants to contact Ralph, you can reach him at: Ralph.Sims@FalconJet.com.

Next, I am pleased to announce that Joe Skinner, Chapter Program Chair, is the recipient of one of the thirty 2009 ASIS Foundation Alan J. Cross Awards. The Allan J. Cross Award pays the registration fees (a $700.00 value) to attend an ASIS certification review course of their choice. Joe has elected to attend the CPP Classroom Review Course in February. Congratulations Joe and good luck with preparations for the CPP Exam.

Also, I would like to tell you that I have been asked to serve as the Vice Chair of the ASIS International Information Technology Security Council. I am humbled and thrilled to serve in this position and hope to bring many of its benefits back to our chapter.

09/03/08 - National Preparedness Month, 2008 - A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America During National Preparedness Month, we underscore the important responsibility Americans have to be ready for emergencies in our homes, businesses, and communities. The Department of Homeland Security's Ready campaign highlights preparedness steps, including having an emergency supply kit, making a family emergency plan, and becoming informed about different types of emergencies. After preparing themselves and their families, Americans can take the next step and get involved in helping to prepare their communities for all types of emergencies. For more information, citizens may visit http://www.ready.gov/ and www.citizencorps.gov. During National Preparedness Month, we also honor our Nation's police officers, firefighters, and emergency personnel for their hard work and commitment to protecting others. As first responders, they have demonstrated the true meaning of heroism by taking great risks to safeguard our communities, and all Americans are grateful for their efforts. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 2008 as National Preparedness Month. I call upon the people of the United States to recognize the importance of preparing for potential emergencies and to observe this month by participating in appropriate events, activities, and preparedness programs. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-sixth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.
